HoloMIT® allows you to be fully immersed in a VR/AR/XR world, projecting your volumetric video representation, captured in real-time, directly into the scenario.
At the same time, the end-to-end holoportation pipeline compresses and transmits, in real-time, your volumetric representation, allowing for telepresence and the feeling of being teleported to the other side of the world.
In the MED GAIMS project framework, i2CAT introduces Holoportation as a novel immersive technology for experiencing museums and tourist attractions. The research centre is finishing two games with this technology for the Víctor’s Balaguer Museum in Vilanova.
In HoloMIT®, i2CAT uses Point Clouds—instead of meshes—as a representation format, thus unleashing greater detail potential for both capturing and viewing real objects. While this format presents bigger management complexity in terms of computation and data volume, it also opens new horizons for innovation. Moreover, 3D holoconference implies additional requirements in terms of bandwidth and latency. By combining various components for capture, compression, multi-conferencing, and 3D rendering, i2CAT effectively reduces the computing, data load, bandwidth, and cost requirements of an end-to-end solution.
HoloMIT® is one of the very first end-to-end Holoportation platforms supporting use cases as:
Volum Technologies is i2CAT’s new spin-off, which will connect people through holographic technology using HoloMiT®. It will offer high-quality 3D holographic solutions from standard commercial cameras, facilitating immersive real-time videoconferencing at a competitive cost.
The product commercialised by Volum was defined after years of research and valorisation at i2CAT. HoloMiT® has been a major part of the European research projects VRTogether (H2020), XReco, 6G-XR, PRESENCE and HEAT (Horizon Europe), in addition to the ViViM project (RIS3CAT). This technology development process, initiated in 2020, has been validated through pilots and customer trials, paving the way for a long-term joint investment of more than €3.7 million to reach the spin-off phase.
We look forward to your visit to show you the technology while discussing how some of the components used by i2CAT—available for licensing—can become new applications that develop the full potential of immersive environments. The immersive technology sector is growing rapidly and provides innovative opportunities in fields such as entertainment, audiovisual production, and Industry 4.0.
