DESCRIPTION:La adopción de tecnologías emergentes por parte de las empresas tiene el potencial de mejorar sus productos\, servicios y competitividad. Sin embargo\, a pesar de estos beneficios potenciales\, no todas las empresas\, y especialmente las pequeñas y medianas empresas (pymes) tienen capacidad para transformarse incorporando tecnologías digitales avanzadas. El año pasado\, tres de cada cinco pymes europeas alcanzaron un nivel básico de digitalización\, según datos de Eurostat. Sin embargo\, un pequeño porcentaje de empresas adoptó con éxito las tecnologías emergentes (por ejemplo\, solo el 5% de las pymes de la UE utilizó la impresión 3D y solo el 6%\, robots). ¿Cómo hacer que funcione?\nComo uno de los Hubs Europeos de Innovación Digital\, el proyecto europeo DIH4CAT pretende impulsar la transformación digital de las pymes mediante innovación abierta. DESCRIPTION:By Ignasi Oliva\, Blockchain Innovation Manager in the Department of Cybersecurity & Blockchain R&I at i2CAT. \nThe workshop’s objective is to present and understand the state of evolution and the new Internet generation\, called WEB 3.0\, where the control of data and user information is under their control. One of the technologies contributing to this change is blockchain technology\, with the decentralization of information and data\, generation of new economies\, definition of governance mechanisms\, transfer of value\, and solutions to ensure privacy and digital identity. \nFor 4 hours\, the workshop WEB 3.0 – The New Evolution of the Internet will consist of four modules. The basic concepts and components of blockchain technology will be presented to understand the technological innovation it introduces. These concepts will allow an understanding of WEB 3.0\, and the contributions to the new idea of the Internet will be presented. The state of the art and how it is addressing the challenges to the implementation of Self-Sovereign Digital Identity (SSI) and privacy in a decentralized world will be presented\, to finish with an approach to the actual applications of blockchain technology and what are the current challenges that are being addressed by the research. \n

SUMMARY:5G CORRIDORS WORKSHOP 2023 INTRODUCTION
DESCRIPTION:The GUIDE project\, with the support of HaDEA and DG CNECT\, are proposing this face-to-face workshop hosted by the European Commission to review the two 5G Strategic Deployment Agendas published in 2020 in the fields of rail and road.  The objective is to provide guidance to 5G corridor deployment efforts from the public and private sectors and stimulate EU-funded project pipeline building. \nThe deployment of 5G cross-border corridors along transport paths throughout Europe will contribute significantly to the green and digital transformation of the EU economy and society.  In particular\, 5G-enabled Connected and Automated Mobility (CAM) is seen as a major enabler for improved transport safety\, optimised traffic management\, reduced CO₂ emissions\, and industrial competitiveness of all transport and mobility related sectors.  This includes all aspects of road\, rail\, waterways and logistics as they can all use the advanced infrastructure to optimise their use cases and services. \nAt 14.50 h\, Laura Sanz\, CCAM Strategy Lead at i2CAT\, will present the project GUIDE.

SUMMARY:Designing New Economies - Blockchain for Social Innovation [IEEE Ecuador Technical Chapters Meeting 2023]
DESCRIPTION:Traditional market economies have proven incredibly efficient at financing\, producing and distributing private goods. At the same time\, they continue to prove ineffective in financing and conserving public/common goods\, be they forests\, wildlife\, climate change\, social equality or even peace. The so-called “tragedy of the commons” partly explains the root of this problem\, relating it to the huge differences in incentives that drive economic agents in markets for private versus common goods. \nIn mathematical language\, anyone who pays for a public good\, by increasing the level of production of that public good\, is benefiting N people\, but is only getting 1/N of that benefit himself. Therefore\, interested individuals tend to contribute only to public goods whose benefit/cost ratio is greater than N-to-1. In contrast\, an individual buying a television will pay 100% of the cost\, but will also enjoy 100% of the benefit\, which makes it much easier to make investments based on a benefit/cost ratio of 1-to-1. \nLeveraging the capabilities of blockchain technology to design new market mechanisms\, the P.R.I.N.G.O – Private Incentives for Common Goods project provides a platform aimed at escaping this issue by realigning incentives in commons economies so that private actors make as significant profits as in private goods markets if their actions bring real value to the common good. P.R.I.N.G.O establishes a strong link between the commons and the video game industry. The rise of digital assets/Non Fungible Tokens (NFTs) in 2021 evidenced that there is a demand from users to own digital goods (a song\, a sword in a video game\, etc…) and trade them in open and decentralized markets. The rules governing these markets are public (based on open source code deployed on a blockchain)\, allowing decentralized economies to be built around them. \nThe platform developed in the context of the project enables the acquisition of real-world commons represented by dynamic NFTs in video games and\, more importantly\, allows their owners to potentially evolve them according to rules defined through a Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO)\, increasing their market value if their actions match the needs of the commons\, generating a recurrent flow of value back to society. \nP.R.I.N.G.O obtained a grant in the 2nd ONTOCHAIN call\, launched under the Next Generation Internet (NGI) initiative of the European Commission to fund knowledge management solutions based on Blockchain and the Semantic Web that aim to preserve the structuring\, integrity and reliability of the information and content of innovative digital initiatives.

SUMMARY:Paper Presentation: DQN-Based Intelligent Application Placement with Delay-Priority in Multi MEC Systems
DESCRIPTION:Paper presented by Juan Sebastian Carmargo of Software Networks. \nIn 5G Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC) is critical to bring computing and processing closer to users and enable ultra-low latency communications. When instantiating an application\, selecting the MEC host that minimizes the latency but still fulfills the application’s requirements is critical. However\, as future 6G networks are expected to become even more geo-distributed\, and handled by multiple levels of management entities\, this labor becomes extremely difficult and Machine Learning (ML) is meant to be a native part of this process. In this context\, we propose a Reinforcement Learning model that selects the best possible host to instantiate a MEC application\, looking to minimize the end-to-end delay while fulfilling the application requirements. The proposed ML method uses Deep Q-Learning through several stages of environment state\, taking an action and rewarding the model when it chooses correctly and penalizing it otherwise. By modifying the reward incentives\, we have successfully trained a model that chooses the best host possible delay-wise on a multi-level orchestration scenario\, while meeting the applications’ requirements. The results obtained via simulation over a series of MEC scenarios show a success rate of up to 96%\, optimizing the delay in the long term.
